Gallery of Fluid Motion 2020

For the APS-DFD 2020 meeting Gallery of Fluid Motion, I submitted a video of my drop impact experiments, conducted at the LGL-TPE in Lyon with Renaud Deguen, Thierry Alboussière and Maylis Landeau.

The video shows the formation of mushroom-shaped plumes penetrating radially into the ambiant fluid during the impact of a drop on a deep liquid layer. We interpret phenomenon as a Rayleigh-Taylor instability.

The video was selected as one of the winners of the Gallery of Fluid Motion 2020. More details can be found in the PRF paper associated with the video.
